OUR HISTORY

Milestones in over 145 years of commitment to architecture, resilience, boldness and value creation

  • 1879

    Société Foncière Lyonnaise is set up by Henri Germain, founder of Crédit Lyonnais.

  • 1892

    SFL’s portfolio is expanded to include assets in Paris, the Côte d'Azur, Belgium and Italy. In all, the portfolio comprises more than 300 buildings and almost 2,000 hectares of land.

  • 1920–1939

    Between the two world wars, SFL refocuses the portfolio exclusively on the French capital, selling all its assets outside Paris.

  • 1979

    100 years after its creation, SFL has a high-quality portfolio in prime locations, comprising some 185,000 sq.m. of commercial and residential properties. 

  • 2003

    SFL focuses its growth strategy on office and retail properties. It elects to be taxed under France's new Sociétés d'Investissements Immobiliers Cotées (SIIC) regime, which gives shareholders the benefit of a REIT-style structure.

  • 2004

    Immobiliaria Colonial becomes SFL's main shareholder, laying the foundations for a robust strategic partnership.

  • 2010

    SFL launches its first plan to reduce the carbon footprint of its operations, acting on its firm belief in the industry-wide need for a revolutionary new approach to commercial property design and renovation projects. CSR becomes central to its growth strategy.

  • 2011

    SFL specialises in prime commercial property in Paris, a strategic choice that rapidly proves its worth.

  • 2025

    Since 1 October 2025, SFL and Inmobiliaria Colonial have been known as «SFL".« Colonial SFL »The merger will create one of Europe's leaders in prime commercial property, with consolidated assets estimated at €11.9 billion.
